A Long Stretch... I know

Hello everyone,

Things just didn't go according to plan with the grape harvest. The winery never came out, they visited a neighbors vineyard, then called us saying grapes are not ready in our area for harvest. Our vines were just loaded with wonderful fruit, we ended up saving 60# and made our own wine. Two weeks later... winery called saying they were ready and needed the grapes by the end of the day. By then our harvest was devoured by turkeys, and other birds, some were already raisins. We delivered them at 9:30 at night, the winery had only a note book with peoples names and the number of pounds each person delivered to their winery. A few months later we received a check in the mail, (it was at that moment, we felt stunned) after 4 years of very labor intensive work; we received .65 cents a pound for our grapes. No where near the amount mentioned at the viticulture meetings we attended each month. We are hopeful, that with each passing year our harvests will bring in better profits.

The best part is that we saved enough grapes to harvest 28 bottles of some very fine wine (from the grapes they said; " were not ready for harvest") it is Frontenac Gris and has the sweet taste of peach, and apricot, with a tropical finish. This is some good stuff!

The next huge project we had going was a new roof on the entire house/barn.

This job took the contractors 3 weeks from start to finish. What's amazing is we can no longer here the wind howling, or the rain beating the tin roof, as we lay in our bed at night, It's beautiful and no more leaks into the house.

Now, we can relax and get ready for the hustle and bustle of Christmas decorating and shopping.
