A Trip Worth Taking

Hi All,

I just wanted to share (well, okay, brag) about my Mother's Day . Hubby really does put alot of effort into making things special. He took me all the way to Sackets Harbor (about 50 miles each way) to the Tin Pan Galley. We arrived at about 7:30 AM and got a seat right away. That's on count of getting up at the crack of dawn so we could beat the crowds.

See for yourselves

This is a very popular place, people were lined up down the sidewalk and even inside waiting for a table to share with their Mothers, wives, daughters, grandmothers etc. on that very special day. Below, is a picture of the patio area at Tin Pan Galley, it was really cold here on Mothers day, otherwise this would have been the choice for most to sit. You too can check it out, just go to www.tinpangalley.com may want to wear a bib, the menu is mouth watering.
Sackets Harbor is a quaint little town that sits on Lake Ontario. A short walk down the street, will lead you to the battlefield where the war of 1812 took place in this town, from there, you can see Canada on the opposite side of the lake.

This is a cute little Ice Cream shop directly across the street (to early for them to be open.) After we finished eating, we were so stuffed, we had that feeling of taking a nap, but we still had an hours drive to get back home.
After eating we drove to the nearby marina, (isn't it just beautiful) hubby & I both share a love for sailboats. We actually owned a 22 ft. sailboat and sailed it around to different islands in the Republic Of Panama, during our military tour there. What memories we have gathered over the 25 plus years we've been married...

Hubby, sure does spoil me!
On our way home, hubby said; "lets stop at Sam's Club, to browse." He really shouldn't have, I mean, what did I do to deserve all this? Are you all sitting down, for those that may not be, pull up a chair... He bought me a (are you sitting down now) lap top. Holy Canolli! Yes, an HP Pavilion Notebook, I'm still working on figuring out the difference between the home computer and the lap top, Big Dif, there. I Love you, Honey!!!! XXXOOOO

Ok, what else is new~
The weather has warmed up a tad, and this has gotten me out in the yard. Yesterday, I mowed the lawn (vacant rental also) hung out two loads of wash, drove daughter to Dr appt. then drove out to the sawmill to pick up 13 2x4x6's for my planter boxes. Last night after dinner, Hubby & I worked together; I measured, he cut, and together we screwed the each corner to make the perfect planters boxes.

Know, I don't know about you, but I get alot of ideas and information from magazines. I read an article about placing wet newspaper inside your boxes to kill the grass and prevent weeds from creeping into your garden, sooooo I spent the morning with old newspaper, a roll of masking tape, and a tape measure. I made huge sheets of newspaper, then rolled them up, carried them out and placed a roll in each box then watered it down with my handy dandy watering can.

Now, we just have to add the dirt and veggies...

Weedless? I am not sure if I know what that means cause I have never seen mine weedless!! LOL! Sounds like it should work well.

Love your Mother's Day story. The little cafe looks awesome and the water looks great. I'll have to bring my boat up there ;) Would you guys go out with us???

Congrats on the laptop. I too have an HP Paviliion laptop and I love it. Got mine on Black Friday not Mother's Day!!

Your planter boxes are just so neat, Mel! I wish I'd known about the newspaper liner.... it would have saved my back from weeding so much. *Sigh*...
Your Hubby definitely sounds like a keeper to me- looks like you had a wonderful trip and the computer was an extra-special bonus!
Way to go, Mr. Mel!
