Heaven on Earth ~ The Adirondacks

My Birthday get away at The Great Sagamore Inn built by the Vanderbilts as a private retreat for the Vanderbilt's family and friends to escape the city life, for one that was much more relaxing. Built around 1897 the camp provides all meals, there is no TV or phone (except in the office) and absolutely no cell phone service. This get away brings you back in time as if you too, are one of the Vanderbilt guests. I "love" the Adirondack mountains it is so tranquil and beautiful, I feel it is Heaven on earth and I just love visiting any and all parts of the Adirondacks.

The pictures I'm sharing with you today were taken in July as my hubby & I paddle our way across Sagamore lake one morning prior to breakfast. As you can see, the weather that weekend was perfect allowing me to photograph the reflections off the water.
It was so peaceful & oh so quiet, you could hear the birds singing all around you, and people from the camp talking ever so softly, other than that, very calming.

Our meals were served in a huge dining facility, where everyone sat together, we met a very nice couple there and ended up taking the Raquette Lake tour with them (by boat) around the edges of the lake . This was also included in your stay there at Sagamore and took nearly 2 hours to complete the trip This day was perfect to be on the water as the temps were approximately 92 degree (very hot for this area) the sun was hot with not a cloud in the skies.

Sunday morning (the day everyone packs up and leaves for home) was a rainy day as we said our farewells to the friends we'd just met over the weekend. May we meet again one day perhaps on a cruise; we shared a few stories of our travels on cruises and these guys love cruising as do we.
I'd like to say "Thank you Honey" for a beautiful weekend, a wonderful present for my big day. I enjoy anytime we can get away from our busy schedules to share a few days "alone".

Dear Mel,
What a wonderful birthday present! I enjoyed your pictures and hearing about your special weekend at one of the historical great camps!
My husband and I love the Adirondacks also, its history, great camps, art,and breathtaking beauty are quite enchanting! We'll be heading up for the Blue Mountain Antique show in September and we are sure looking forward to it!
I read your post about your daughter and I understand how painful this must be for you. I will be praying. . .
May you find strength and Truth in Him--Claudia O.
