Rustic Dreams

Since making the sofa table awhile back Hubby has been asking me to build a TV stand. It has taken a bit of thinking, "I think, I have an idea" (he sure does have a lot of faith in me.) A bit of a challenge; lets just wait and see what comes out of this.

Hubby offered to start up the chain saw and cut off some more downed branches, behind me you can see this huge clump birch. This is what's making all my dreams for furnishings possible. This tree is located just down over the hill from the horses pasture, one of my favorite spots here on the farm. It is so quiet back here, I often mention how I'd love to build a small cedar cabin on the flat here. You can see some of the cedars there behind the birch tree, it wouldn't be that difficult.
Way in the background, you can see the woods get really thick, this is where the beavers have made dams, with small streams running through. I love to walk back here, to cross over the streams to the other side of our property. Over yander, there are some young oak trees, and several mature sugar maples, as well as Tamaracks.

Back in the early 1960's it was those very same Tamaracks that were used to build the barn in which we now call home. For the past two years, one of the family members makes a surprise visit to us, on what he remembers as his families farm. During his last visit here, he shared with us that his family cut all the wood from the property dragging it from the back with horses, stacking it to dry, then waiting to get enough people together to build this masterpiece.

Beavers have also dammed a section making a huge pond with a beaver condo right in the middle of it. The edges of the beavers pond is piled high with chews of many shapes and sizes. This is where, I got the idea to collect some beaver chews to construct the railing for our front porch, which you see here.

So, you see folks, this is where rustic dreams really do come true... One day, there will be a little cedar cabin that snuggles up to the clump birch.
Perhaps, I could build it myself.
