The Jitters

Time is nearing for my oral surgery, I will be undergoing a dental implant surgery for a tooth lost 3 years ago from a dead or dying nerve. The reason it took this long is because I opt to do the straightening first with the use of invisaligns (braces made of a clear plastic.) For the surgery part the dentist has perscribed a very high dose of Amoxicillan (875mg) every 12 hours. Now, I have a problem with this, as Amoxicillan is the one and only antibiotic I can tollerate for Bronchitis. Usually, my family doctor will perscribe 250mg tablets as he knows what problems I endure from even the 500mg tablets.

I have done some research and find that the new studies show the side effects outway the risks involved with being put on such high doses of antibiotics prior to dental work. I do not want to build up a resistance to amoxicillan from taking this much to the point it no longer fights the bronchitis, I usually get once every fall. Are their any professionals out there(you can remain anonomous, as a matter of fact, please do) that could tell me if a lower dose would be just as effective say 500 mg twice a day. I'm even willing to put up a fight with a yeast problem and stomach issues if this is what it takes. However, it scares me to think of taking the 875mg tablets. I do have a phobia about meds, I do not take meds often and prefer not to...

Pray, that whatever decisions are made that I will have no complications and under our fathers care the whole time. I wish I could relax when it comes to dental procedures; but that is what happens when you have a few bad experiences in the dental chair. And to think all I want is to be back to normal again (my tooth.)

Oh, I'm with you. I hate going to the dentist and worse, having oral surgery. They might as well knock me over the head with a huge hammer. I pray everything works out for you and you can get by with few antibiotics.

I'll be praying all goes well for you, dear friend! I worked in the dental profession for 18 years, and I know all too well the apprehension some people have. I'm sending a big hug for you on that one!

Hey Cuz, when is the surgery? Hope all goes well and my thoughts and prayers are with you. You know you and I are alike with the meds (ok, we are more alike than that could be twins lol) and that high dosage is scary.

Finally had time to get on here and look at the pictures and Zoe is beautiful!

Love Ya Cuz :)
