What A Difference A Day Makes

Hello my friends,
I'm digging my way out of the deep rut I've been in for the past few days. Marley our orphaned dog has had babies (8 of them to be exact) born to us on February 20th. It would turn out that Marley didn't know what to do with all these new whimpering ad whining little fuzz balls. For three days she refused to lay down and feed them, unless we forced her to lay with them, and we sat in the box with her while doing so. Nights have been most difficult as you could hear her jump in the box, the pups would go bananas whimpering and screaming and poor Marley would jump back out of her box and crawl under the bed. Marley soon figured out this wasn't working, no matter where she hid she could still hear her puppies cries throughout the house. She became agitated and started to dig at the carpet on the floor, then walk over to the box look in at her helpless babies and cry back at them. I phoned the Vet, at first she thought maybe it was a lack of calcium give her some Tums 2 x a day for a week. When it didn't stop she ruled out the calcium problem and wished me well, hoping, things would get better by the end of the week. At this point, I am now suffering sleep deprivation, and flustered myself wondering if the puppies were getting the nutrition they needed to help them through all this. I phoned another Vet, for a second opinion, this time asking where the box was located; okay fine, sounds like Marley is torn between your attention and the babies, try sitting in the box with her until she has fed the babies and they crawl off and go to sleep. Try this several times a day until she knows you are there. Bingo, it worked like a charm! Marley is now feeding the puppies wonderfully, and I am receiving my most needed sleep. I do not function well if I don't get at least 7 hours a night, so the last three nights have been awful. Thankfully, things have turned around and I was able to sleep at least 6 hours last night, waking up this morning and feeling fine... I will try to get a few pictures posted in the next few days, because, I know you're all gonna want a retreiver puppy just like Marley.
