Wrapped Up In Family Searching

Hi Guys,

I have been glued to this computer for days now. My father passed away suddenly, two years ago on Thanksgiving Day, since my parents were divorced and we saw very little of my father we never knew that side of our being. I have a huge interest in figuring out our ancestry and have been working at finding out who we are and where did we hail from. My step-brother sent me a few newspaper articles, God bless him (which helped out a great deal) for the last few weeks I have been working at our family tree. This is so exciting! I know, in my heart, that my Father would be proud... I will put a book together for my children so that when we pass on they can continue to add to our heritage. Cool Stuff!

Wonderful idea. I hope you find tons of info in your search.

My mother did this many years ago, however I can't find any of the info she had. I'm sure some of it must have been destroyed by her when she was going through her papers. She even had contact with a number of our relatives from England...all lost because now she is too sick to remember. One day I'm hoping I'll start the search all over again.

My cousin-Lonny- did this years ago for my dad's side of the family. it is a wonderful thing. my parents celebrate their 60th anniversary this year and my mother is sharp as a tack with an unbelievable memory. I made them a scrapbook of photos and memories as far back as I could. It has 50 pages and cost me 6 months time and about 500$ materials. To me it is beautiful and I know it will be passed on tp my daughter. you can't beat these treasured memories.....
Good luck in your search and preservation of history. :)

Hello guys,

I have found quite a few relatives on my fathers side, which is great to know. I can hardly believe, the litte town I grew up in, was home to nearly all of my ancesters on his side. I must travel home, to visit the libraries newspaper articles, as well as, some microfilms, maybe late spring...

This is a dream come true for me, I appreciate, all of your comments and sharing with me that your families have done something simular. It sure is time demanding!

Hi Mel,
Thanks for your sweet words, and I'm so EXCITED about you tracing your roots! I'd love to know how you're doing this. Like you, .... I want to know more. I thought that I had enough time with my Mom before she passed to ask evrything I wanted to know... but I was wrong. I want to know more. Could you share with us how you're your doing this? I have been to ancestory.com I think it was but I never paid for the extra info... so I didn't get very far.
