Help Wanted

Home Health Aides or Personal care providers this is the ad in which I responded to. I spent many hours yesterday putting together an application, cover letter, and digging through a lot of paperwork from previous posistions for this company. Upon completion I called the company asking where they were located so that I could drop off my packet. Having lived in the area for 15 years (t/-) plus slash minus, I knew the neighborhood but, unsure of the exact location; I hop in my Jeep drive the 5 miles and arrive in front of a building that looks somewhat abandoned. A for sale sign in the front window, and snow approx. 6 feet high from the plows covers the front sidewalk. I proceed to get out of the Jeep walk to a driveway belonging to a neighboring house and work my way to the companies front door. Blinds cove the door window with an old hours of operations sheet stuck in the corner. Open the front door to walk into what I figured, would be a front office, ends up being a room with ~my first sightings of cardboard all over the floor from a collapsed ceiling a few pieces of physical therapy equipment under the rubble. I turn my head to the right and on the other side of the room, I spot a hospital bed and what appeared from my position at the door (half way open) and now freightening to my inner soul, a sillouette of a person also covered in pieces of cardboard ceiling material. Openeing the door a bit more (so I can see in the back corner) my eyes focused on a person in this bed, my heart racing, eyes bigger than saucers, it registers in my head that it is a manikin. As I stand at the front door talking myself into proceeding further inside as this is clearly not an office; I step inside take another look around the room ( as something out of a haunting) directly in front of me now, is another (interior) door. I open it and call out for anyone who may be inside, at first no response, then; I yell louder and a lady appears from an office in a corner. How creepy! I quickly hand her my packet (all the while wondering) if I should trust them with all this information, this is suppose to be a professional company after all, right? Why then are they in a building that appears to be in dis-repair? Why would they not have their office at the front instead of entering into what appeared as a horror scene? Why did I not just walk (or run) away? I can only say it must be "faith" in the holy spirit, the giver of life, who stood by holding my hand, as only he himself knows that in my heart, I will forever hold our elders first.

It was quite the experience but, I have applied and will do a skills check on Friday to start as a Certified Home Health Aid. I know there are a lot of elders out there that have no family in the area. They get so lonely and a majority of the time just want someone to visit with them a few times a week. I have been doing this line of work for years and feel blessed that I have been given the opportunity to offer our older folks a helping hand.

OH MY GOSH!! What do I have to do come up there and shake some sense into you???? Never do that again! You see anything like that again don't go in further turn around and run! I know if either of the girls came home and told you this you would have scolded them from one side of the farm to the other. And I want to know if something would have happened to you who knew where you were? HUH? OKay, I'm done for now...maybe...

Love Ya Cuz :)

Thanks Vick, for your concerns. Chuck knew I was delivering an application, however, I did tell him all about this matter when he came home from work that day. I have followed thru with their demands as far as becoming an employee but, I'm having second thoughts. 1) because they don't have an organized office (see posting) 2) no office phone the lady in the office or what they consider to be an office has a personal cell phone 3) I was supposedly set up for a skills check (make sure I know how to handle bedridden people etc.) today she tells me it's impossible to do today yet they are hurting for employee's? I think what I will do is drive to town and apply at some of the more professional companies...
